Week 9: Bunmi Koko
Becoming part of the creative industries UK Presentation: Bunmi Koko The story so far.Followed by Q&A
Bunmi Koko gave us a presantation on her storty to date from when she left our university (UEL). Bunmi Koko was founded in March 2009 she also show us some of her garment. The name Bunmi Koko was inspired by the designer’s first name ‘Bunmi’ (meaning ‘God gave me’ in Yoruba) and the affectionate nickname given by her partner, Francis Udom; “Koko”(meaning ‘my other half’ in Efik), another Nigerian dialect. Hence, Bunmi Koko meaning “God gave me my other half”.
Who whould she like to see wearing her clothes? and she said “The everyday woman who is fashion forward and wants clothes that flatter and enhance her femininity” and celebrities the likes of Beyonce, Mel B, Victora beckham form the spice girls.
how was it when she first started out? she said “There have been highs and lows. The “highs” have been the freedom of creative expression and being my own boss”
